road trip down south

Updated: Jun 13, 2019

From Wollongong to Berry, to Jervis Bay, Bowral, then back to Sydney!

Stanwell Tops

DAY 1:

Started the day off by heading to the Stanwell Tops Lookout as well as the Sea Cliff Bridge. It felt like Déjà vu, as the last time I visited was last Christmas, which wasn't too long ago! We made our way to Kiama's famous blowhole! There weren't many high tides this day, thus we didn't get chance to see many tides coming up... BUT it was still a great view facing the South Pacific Ocean and the light house!

We made a pit stop at Berry, at ‘The Famous Berry Donut Truck’ where we purchased fresh fried cinnamon donuts with ice cream. A donut with ice cream? It was incredible! That crunch of the crispy end of the donut along with the sweet vanilla ice cream! The combination – was hands down AMAZING!

After our snack, we made our way to Silos Estate, where we did some wine tasting! In order to undertake wine tasting, we paid $5 each per person. I realised that I preferred wine a lot more as opposed to red wine. Although, I don’t hate red wine – I would just prefer not to have it…

Hyams Beach

Finally, we had arrived at our final destination, HYAMS BEACH which is known to have the 'whitest sand in the world.' ’I remember before my trip to Hawaii, I had assumed that their beaches would be nice. Boy was I wrong about Waikiki Beach… The rocks and pebbles made the sand difficult to walk through. Comparing Waikiki Beach to Bondi, Bondi definitely wins! It made me appreciate Australia’s beaches ten times more! You know how in Summer, when you visit Bondi and the moment your toes touch the sand, it feels as if its burning. While I was Hyams Beach, I took note the the sand wasn't even hot during Summer! It was soft and pleasant to walk through, AND the waves were nice and calm too! I personally, find that yes. Big waves are fun – BUT they can easily become dangerous! Hence, I preferred the waves at Hyams Beach!

Gumnut Patisserie

DAY 2:

The next day, we spent our morning at the beach! Around noon, we made our way to Two Figs. I didn’t do the wine tasting, this time round – however I did have a few sips of my sisters’ wine! The vineyards and views were jaw dropping. As we made our way back through Kangaroo Valley, we figured why not stop by Fitzroy Falls? Its on the way?! I must admit, I’m so used to ocean views – it was nice for a change to see a waterfall! Next, we stopped by at the suburb of Bowral and got a taste of Gumnut Patisserie! Did you know that Gumnut Patisserie won the Championship Pastry of the Show 2017 AND 2018? In 2018, they won a total of 33 medals and two championship ribbons! If you’re ever at Bowral – the Gumnut Patisserie is a MUST!
